Hmm, yes sounds all too familiar. I wonder sometimes if Mr B got the muddy end of the stick marrying me. But apparently I do have my moments and I'm sure you do too! At least we are aware of our weekness and that must be a strength in itself;)

I don't have any problem receiving presents or having someone cook for me...but I do have a problem with grumpiness. Mine generally comes from feeling unappreciated and over-worked. But then I think I sometimes enjoy being in a mood (perverse, isn't it?!) and even when the man's done absolutely nothing wrong I persist with my bad mood. I'm quite a catch aren't I?!

This is actually something my husband taught me in the early days of us dating. I couldn't get my head around it at first but the more I thought about it, the clearer it became. His theory is that receiving takes humility since we're acknowledging our need, so when we're refusing to receive it's usually out of a false sense of humility that masks our foolish pride. Also, three cheers for men who cook and do it well!

Thanks Norfolk Cuz! I think it's nice that there's hidden treasure, although I'm sure Granny would have seen it that way. Things is, it is also absolutely the sort of story that she would have told about her own childhood. Lots of love Mrs B xx

Believe me when I say that the wrath of Granny was far greater than the guilt I have carried since that memorable summer's day! I'm comforted to think that other children would have done the same thing. From one of the older cousins..
